We became
interested in the dog world in 1983, and our kennel name of
Stelron was registered - primarily for our Bull Terriers with our
Kennel Union of Southern Africa in 1984. The Shih Tzu came
along 2 years later and only after Lise had attended a couple of
dog shows, as she was more involved with Persian cats at the time
- owning over the years but never breeding: 5 Chinchilla's, 1 Blue Smoke Persian, a
Blue Cream Persian, a Siamese and a Blue Burmese!
We
mostly show our Shih Tzu in the Gauteng area where we live (albeit
very selectively), and do not attend many "away" shows -
mostly because of the distances that have to be traveled, and also
because we do not have anyone to house sit our dogs. So on
these pages you will not find many big show brags - however, we
are none-the-less extremely proud of what our Shih Tzu have
achieved in some very strong competition.
Showing dogs is very much a hobby with us and we feel that our
dogs should earn/win what they do on their own merits - and not on
who owns & handles them etc, so we also do not advertise much.
We
have never believed in caging our dogs, and here they all run free and
they all play with one another. Yes, we lose coat -
however, the dogs happiness is far more important to us than just
trailing coat and ribbons... Once our show dogs retire from the ring,
they are cut down - something that seems to go down very well with
them! We have however, stopped breeding the Shih Tzu - but
we do not ever
picture, not having any Shih Tzu around as their characters are
totally unique, and each one is different. The welcome that we get
when we have been out is just so joyous. They all do the
"dance" and wave their little feet at us. No - life
would not be the same without them.
We
are both members of the Kennel Union of Southern Africa.
Steven is a life member of both the Natal Bull Terrier Club and
the South African Bull Terrier Club. He is also a twice Past
Chairman of the SABTC and still serves on the Committee.
Steven has had the honor of
judging our Major Trophy Show for Bull Terriers, which
incorporates our Supreme Bull Terrier of the Year. Lise has taken on a new "direction" in the dog world -
namely judging, and is now a qualified judge
for Bull Terriers & the Utility Group at Championship shows [needing only
1 more Championship Show to be put onto the panel
for both Bullies & Utility Group].
She has also decided to take on the balance of the Terriers and the Toy
groups at Open Show level. She has had the honor of being invited to judge the Sweepstakes at the
Canadian Shih Tzu Club National Specialty 2000. This is a
great honor for any breeder and will always be a treasured
memory...
We
hope that you will enjoy your visit with us.
